We offer Gi and No-Gi classes.
Gi Jiu-Jitsu is practiced wearing a traditional martial arts uniform called a gi (jacket, pants, and belt). The gi can be used for grips, allowing techniques that involve grabbing sleeves, collars, and pant legs.
No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu is practiced in athletic clothing, typically a rash guard and shorts, without the traditional gi. Since there are no clothing grips, the pace is often faster and techniques rely more on body control, underhooks, and clinches.
Both styles teach the same core principles of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, including takedowns, positions, escapes, and submissions. The main difference is the clothing and how it affects the techniques used.
Kids BJJ is for ages 5-16.
*Children ages 5-6 may or may not be ready for this class at a developmental level; a coach will assess them during the trial period to determine if they are ready. We do accept some 4 year olds on a case-by-case basis. We like to have them try a class first so we can see if they are able to participate safely, follow directions, listen to the instructor, and be good teammates in a group class setting.
Depending on size, some teens may train in the kids class or move up to the adult class based on coaches recommendations.
All classes are co-ed unless otherwise specified.
