GYM RULES
Welcome to the Rally Point family! We’re glad that you are here. To ensure that everyone has the best training experience possible, we have some rules and expectations for our members to follow. These rules and expectations are a part of our visitor waiver and membership agreement and everyone is expected to follow them. Please see a staff member or instructor if you have any questions or concerns.
General Rules:
- No food, drink, gum or shoes on the mats. Water bottles can be placed along the edge of the mats for quick sips, but please do not store anything that may spill and stain.
- If training in no-gi gear, please do not wear shorts/spats/pants with zippers or metal pieces that may rip the mats.
- ALWAYS wear shoes when visiting the restrooms or walking in off-mat areas. We do not want the germs that occupy bathroom floors to be brought onto the mats where we roll.
- ALWAYS wear a rashguard or tight fitting athletic shirt under your gi.
- ALWAYS listen to instructors/coaches and follow directions. Failure to do so may lead to injuries or safety issues. Anyone who does not follow instructor/coach instructions may be asked to leave.
- RESPECT THE TAP. If your training partner taps, immediately let go of the submission attempt. If you are caught in a position you cannot get out of, tap immediately. Do not wait until you are hurt. You can tap a partner with your hand twice, stomp your foot on the mats twice, or yell “TAP!” in order to tap out. Tapping your partner directly on the body is the preferred method, but sometimes you end up in positions where this is not possible.
- No off-mat coaching. Parents/guardians…we know this is a hard one. Please allow the coaches/instructors to do the coaching. This helps our kids focus on what the instructor is demonstrating and reduces anxiety for everyone involved.
- Please monitor email/gymdesk app/social media pages for information regarding potential closures due to things like inclement weather. If class is in session during a tornado warning/high risk weather emergency, please move towards the office part of the building (away from windows) to take shelter.
- Parking is limited in front of the building. We recommend members park directly behind the building or in the library lot.
- Check your ego at the door and HAVE FUN! Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a challenge for everyone at all levels. We are all here to get better and are on the same team!
Health & Hygiene Rules:
- Keep finger nails and toe nails trimmed.
- Long hair must be tied back so that it does not fall in your training partner’s face.
- Wash your gi after every class. Sweat and bacteria grow easily on mats and uniforms and washing your gi regularly reduces the likelihood of spreading infection.
- Remove all metal objects/jewelry like necklaces, rings, earrings, belly rings, piercings or other such items before training. These are easily snagged on training partners uniforms and can lead to injuries.
- While we do not require mouthguards, we STRONGLY encourage members to wear them.
- If you feel at all sick or that you may be coming down with something, refrain from training and stay home.
-
If you have a skin infection such as staph or ringworm, please do not train until it has fully cleared. These infections are highly contagious and can spread through physical contact. Please also stay home if you have head lice, as it can spread quickly in close-contact training environments.
If you have a recent tattoo that is still healing, please wait until it is fully healed before returning to the mats, as it is considered an open wound.
Safety & Respect:
- Instructors will teach students about moves/techniques/submissions that are not allowed at
Rally Point Martial Arts. Please ensure that you do not use banned techniques. These techniques have been banned for good reason and we have seen them lead to serious injuries. If you are unsure about whether or not you can do something, ask a coach before trying it.
- Your training partners are your teammates. Take care of each other. Be aware of differences in things like weight, body type and size and who you are rolling with. Anyone can refuse to train/roll with another member without fear of reprisal. Please talk to a coach if you are unsure of who to partner up with.
- Rally Point Martial Arts is committed to providing a safe and inclusive place for practitioners from all walks of life to train that is free from harassment. Any harassment regarding gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability, nationality or ancestry will not be tolerated. Please refrain from making jokes that may be perceived as racist, homophobic, sexist or about sexual assault/domestic violence.
- If you feel that you have been the target of harassment, bullying, abuse or unwanted sexual advances by another member or staff member, please speak with an instructor/staff member you feel comfortable speaking with so that we can address the situation as soon as possible. We will make every effort to keep the details confidential while investigating.
